Everything you need before you come in

How to book, what to bring and what to expect — so your first visit is a short one.

Booking

Three ways to get an appointment

Whichever route you take, you arrive with a slot and a record already open.

Book in the app

Download Afya Hub and talk to Dorah, our AI receptionist. Tell her what is wrong in English or Kiswahili and she finds you a slot in seconds.

Enrol in the portal

Prefer a browser? Create a patient portal account on the web, then book visits, view results and message your care team — no app needed.

Call or walk in

Phone the Centre, or come to reception in Mahina. Walk-in patients are triaged on arrival and seen in clinical priority order.

On the day

What to bring

Identification

A National ID, passport, voter's card or driving licence. For a child, bring their clinic card or birth certificate.

Your medicines and records

Bring any medicines you are currently taking — in their packaging — along with previous results, discharge summaries or referral letters.

Payment or insurance details

Bring your insurance card if you are covered. Confirm with reception before your visit that your scheme is accepted at the Centre.

Your Rights

What you can expect from us

And what we ask of you in return, so the Centre works for everybody in it.

Your rights as a patient

  • To be treated with dignity, regardless of who you are or how you pay
  • To have your condition and options explained in a language you understand
  • To give or refuse consent before any procedure
  • To confidentiality — your record is seen only by those treating you
  • To ask for a second opinion, or to see your own records
  • To raise a complaint and have it answered

What we ask of you

  • Give a full and honest history, including medicines and allergies
  • Arrive on time, and tell us early if you cannot make an appointment
  • Follow the treatment plan agreed with your clinician
  • Treat staff and other patients with courtesy
  • Settle accounts, or tell us promptly if there is a difficulty
  • Keep your contact details current so results can reach you

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need an appointment, or can I just walk in?

You can walk in. Reception will register you and a nurse will triage you on arrival, after which patients are seen in clinical priority order rather than arrival order.

Booking ahead — through the Afya Hub app or the patient portal — usually means a much shorter wait.

How do I get my test results?

Results are filed to your Afya Hub record and appear in the app or the patient portal as soon as they are reported.

If a result needs discussing, a clinician will contact you — which is why keeping your phone number current with reception matters.

Can I see a doctor without coming to the Centre?

Yes. A video teleconsultation with a MacWish doctor can be booked in the Afya Hub app, and is well suited to follow-ups, reviewing results and repeat prescriptions.

For anything needing examination, imaging or a procedure, you will be asked to come in.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes. A doctor home visit can be requested through the app — most often used for elderly patients, new mothers, and anyone too unwell to travel.

Which insurance schemes do you accept?

Please confirm with reception before your visit, as accepted schemes change. Bring your insurance card to every appointment.

Can I be seen in Kiswahili?

Yes. Consultations are available in English or Kiswahili, our rooms are signed in both, and the AI assistants in the Afya Hub app answer in whichever language you write in.

How do I get a copy of my medical records?

Your record is available to you in the Afya Hub app and the patient portal. For a formal printed copy, ask at reception — you may be asked for identification.

Still have a question?

Reception can answer most things in a minute — call the Centre, or send us a message.
