Modern medicine with a human touch

A family hospital in Mahina, Nyamagana — specialists you can reach, diagnostics you can trust, and care that continues at home.

Who We Are

A hospital built around the family

MacWish Medical Centre exists to give families in Mwanza somewhere they can take any member, at any age, for almost anything — without being sent across the city for the next step.

Four consultant-led departments sit under one roof, with imaging and laboratory on site, so a consultation, a scan and a result can happen in a single visit rather than over three.

What sets the Centre apart is what happens afterwards. Through Afya Hub, the platform that runs the hospital, your care carries on at home — a video consultation when travelling in is hard, a doctor at your door when it is harder still, and a record that follows you between visits instead of starting again each time.

Our Vision

To be the medical centre families in the Lake Zone turn to first — where specialist care, honest answers and modern diagnostics are within reach of ordinary households, not only of those who can travel for them.

Our Mission

To deliver safe, evidence-led healthcare with dignity and compassion — under one roof, in the patient's own language, and extended into the home through technology that keeps our clinicians within reach.

Our Values

Hope · Health · Healing

Three words on our door, in the order care happens.

Hope

Nobody walks into a hospital on a good day. We meet people where they are — with clear explanations, no jargon, and the time to ask a second question.

Health

Evidence-led medicine from board-certified specialists, supported by on-site imaging and laboratory so decisions rest on results, not guesswork.

Healing

Recovery happens at home, not at reception. Teleconsults, home visits and vitals tracking keep your care team with you after you leave.

Leadership

How the Centre is run

Clinical decisions sit with clinicians, in a short chain — so a concern reaches someone who can act on it.

Medical Director

Holds clinical governance for the Centre — standards of care, case review, and the final say on clinical policy across all four departments.

Hospital Management

Responsible for the running of the building, staffing, supplies and patient administration, so that clinical teams can concentrate on care.

Head of Nursing

Leads the nursing team across triage, treatment, observation and the wards — and sets the standard for how patients are received.

Named appointments to follow

The post-holders' names, portraits and professional registration numbers will be published here once each has confirmed their own entry — those details are theirs to release, not ours to assume.

Quality & Patient Safety

What we commit to, every visit

Safety in a hospital is not a slogan — it is a set of habits that either hold on a busy afternoon or do not. These are the ones we hold ourselves to.

Identify before we treat

Every patient is confirmed against their record before medication, imaging or a procedure.

Consent that is actually informed

Explained in your language, with the alternatives and the risks, before you are asked to agree.

Infection prevention

Hand hygiene, sterilisation and safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste as standing practice.

One record, no repeated tests

Everyone treating you sees the same history, so nothing is duplicated and nothing is missed.

Confidentiality by default

Your record is visible only to the people treating you — enforced in the system, not by memory.

Complaints are answered

If something goes wrong, tell us. Concerns are reviewed and you receive a reply.

Education

MacWish College of Health and Allied Sciences

The MacWish name is also carried by a health training college outside Mwanza. MacWish College of Health and Allied Sciences sits at Nyashishi, about 20 kilometres from the city along the Mwanza–Shinyanga highway, and trains the next generation of clinical and allied health workers for the Lake Zone.

It runs competency-based education and training across more than twenty health science courses, and describes itself as a health-promoting college committed to investing in people and in specialist medical technology.
